This pattern is not only beautiful but incredibly versatile and easily adjusted to your own style and design. The pattern for the gown calls for 130 yards of lace and 10 yards of swiss entredeaux and 8 yards of silk ribbon. Although beautiful, if you bought the lace on the Pullen website, it is well over $500 just for the lace, not including the cotton battiste. And that is for the gown only, that doesn't include the slip underneath which calls for another 11 3/4 yards of lace & entredeaux and 3 3/4 yards of battiste. There are plenty of sites out there where you can buy lace that is similar, just as beautiful for a lot less than $5.29/yd. I substituted cotton battiste for much of the lace for the panels that are all lace, and it is just as beautiful, and much less expensive. My only suggestion is to read the pattern fully from beginning to end because heirloom sewing can be quite involved and tedious, but well worth the effort. The pattern is well written and fits well together, and the drawings are well done and are easy to follow. If you want a true heirloom for your children or grandchildren, this pattern is it.
