Simplicity Bias Tape Maker Review

Simplicity Bias Tape Maker

This bias tape maker does the job. It makes crisp folds. I have only used it with quilter quality cotton. But, I figured that was the toughest test. Makes the bias tape fast and well. The trick is to make sure you press the reset button each time you plug it in or change the settings. Well worth the money. No more burned fingers. Go for it!

Bias Tip- 3/8 Inch Single Fold for Simplicity Bias Tape Maker Review

Bias Tip- 3/8 Inch Single Fold for Simplicity Bias Tape Maker
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Too many problems with this machine and the various tips. First, the instructions that come with the machine are horrible. The instructions with the machine for the 1" tip tell you to cut your strip 1-7/8" yet the Simplicity YouTube video states you cut your strip 2" and also says you have to spray starch all the bias seams so that they will feed properly. Gee, like I really want to have to starch every seam in my bias tape?
As another reviewer stated, the tips are too far away from the iron and unfold before getting to the iron. I agree! I haven't tried to hold the tip up closer to the iron, so perhaps that will work, that is assuming you have starched all the seams so they will feed properly.
I got a "deal" on a set of the extra tips, but am really disappointed. ZERO instructions came with these. Have spent way too much time cutting bias tape at "guessed" widths for the tips as they come with NO suggested widths to cut the bias tape. Doubling the size of the tip would make sense, but ONLY if you intuited that from having gone searching for the Simplicity video that says to cut your strip 2" for the 1" tip! The instructions coming WITH the machine and 1" tip say to cut your strip 1-7/8". UGH!
I also found the strips getting hung up at the end of the iron under the cover if the least little bit of a seam hung out or an edge was slightly irregular.
Next, you have 5" to 6" of bias tape that isn't ironed since that's the amount you have to first pull through before attaching the iron cover and turning on the machine - that is IF you follow the machine instructions (written or Simplcity's YouTube video). Several other video reviewers have the machine turned on before they attach the tip....a really good way to get burned in my opinion.
In all, I can't say I can find a reason to use this machine. I'm sticking to my bias bars Dritz Quilting Bias Press Bars Set Of Five, and the Clover fusible bias tape makers: Clover Fusible Bias 1/4-Inch Tape Maker, 1 EA

Simplicity Rotary Cutting Machine Review

Simplicity Rotary Cutting Machine
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I decided to try this item even after reading the 2 one star reviews I found here at JoAnn's Amazon storefront. I have to say I was pleasantly surprised, the cutter works as it is designed to. FIRST - READ THE DIRECTIONS - If you are cutting fabric you will need to adjust the tension screw, and for two layers of fabric it has to be all the way to the left. The cutter does however cut high quality quilting fabric quite well. Using this machine does take some practice so start with scrap fabric until you really get the hang of it. You do have to pay attention, and guide the material through straight. If you quilt you know you need to have accurate cuts so practice till you are really sure of yourself before cutting into your expensive goods. I can't say that using a hand held rotary cutter is really that much more difficult for me, but if you have any issues and I know folks who do, arthritis or trouble holding a rotary cutter this is something to look into. If you cut lots of strips it could be great, it is fully adjustable from 1/8" to 2 3/4" strips, straight or pinked edge. I have to say I am more sure of my old hand held but this is really great for pinking those fabric edges before pre-washing fabric and I am sure as I get more proficient with the machine I will use it more and more.

An innovative machine for cutting strips of fabric and paper. Great tool for all your recycling and repurposing projects. Cut strips to use for scrapbooking, quilting, sewing, rug hooking, fabric weaving, fabric knitting and crochet, and more! Ideal for cutting straight strips to be used in the Bias Tape Machine (sold separately). The cutting blades are made of forged steel and cut by pressure on a drum, not by sharpness, which dramatically lengthens the durability of the blades. Features a foot pedal similar to a sewing machine for operation, an adjustable guide for cutting strips from 1/2" to 2-1/2" wide. This package contains 1 compact machine measuring only 4-3/8" x 9" x 5", 2 blades: 1 straight and wave, removable power cord, safety shield around blade and a foot peddle operation. UL listed.

Clover 463 Seam Ripper Review

Clover 463 Seam Ripper

*****
This little seam ripper is great! It is sturdy and handy and comes with it's own hard plastic cover. Clover makes another model (the 502) that is not quite as nice; it has a bulkier handle and a soft plastic slipover cover, so I would pick this one for sure out of all of the ones I've owned or found online. My best use of this handy little item is to rip out alterations I've made to my clothes. You can't go wrong here!
Highly recommended.

Singer Inspiration 4210 Sewing Machine Review

Singer Inspiration 4210 Sewing Machine
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
This is an update to my previous review (see below the **** for the original review).
The replacement 4210 sent to me directly from Singer is a VAST improvement over the 4210 I bought in Spring 2007. It's very obvious that the model has had improvements over the past two years of continued manufacture. I've put the new 4210 through its paces and am well pleased with it! What a relief!
****Original review:
I've been sewing for 30 years on an old model Singer, and am an experienced seamstress. I bought this for the features my vintage Singer doesn't have, such as zig-zag stitches, stitching for stretch knits, and buttonhole stitching.
I've had problems from the start with the 4210. The "birdnesting" problem with the bobbin if the machine is not threaded under tension is ridiculous, and documented on Singer's support site. Having to purchase specific bobbins is just wrong. Making buttonholes is not the piece-of-cake that is claimed. It's not intuitive how to change presser feet. The bobbin case jams repeatedly. When using four layers of lightweight cotton and stitching them, birdnesting occurs; you can pretty much ruling out sewing any heavy or thick fabrics with this machine. Birdnesting also occurs when stitching stretch knits. The tension lever doesn't seem to have any effect on tension at all. I could go on and on.
I've called Singer support and they've offered to give me a new 4210 and send this problem one back. I'll take them up on that, and hope that in the two years since I bought my 4210 some of these problems may have been worked out in manufacturing. We'll see.

Dritz Flexible LED Light-Assorted Colors -Teal Raspberry Purple Review

Dritz Flexible LED Light-Assorted Colors -Teal Raspberry Purple

I have never written a product review before buying this light (from a Quilt Shop), but I just have to say that this is a waste of both money & the time you're going to spend trying to get it to work! I wish I had opted for the more expensive "bright light". IF you can get the battery cover off without breaking a nail (I had to pry it off with another tool), and IF you can get the batteries to stay in place (they flop around inside the casing!), and IF the tiny little "on" dot actually works, then you might like this light. The concept is good, but the product itself is cheap, cheap, cheap and does NOT work. It is advertized as "freestanding on work surface". MAYBE if you put a weight on top of the base to hold it down, this would work. In short, save your cash!

120 Spool Wood Thread Rack - By Threadart Review

120 Spool Wood Thread Rack - By Threadart
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Although cheaply made, this rack does serve the intended purpose. I holds the 1000yd spools with no problem. Yet, if you use the 5k spools, you'll lose capacity by more than half. It is made for the 1k spools. Several of the rods were loose, but glue took care of that, not a big deal. It's designed to sit on a counter or shelf, but, it would have to be a wide one. It states in the description it can be hung on the wall, but, you'll have to rig it yourself. There are no instructions or hardware for wall hanging this item. There are other racks for thread on amazon, this was the cheapest overall when I oredered it. The others appear the same, just higher priced and higher shipping. So far so good on this item. I gave it 4 stars because it is a good deal, and does what I want it too. I could make one, but I don't have the time. I will be buying a few more,,,, This race is for the thread spools for a commercial embroidery machine.
