SINGER Pixie-Plus Sewing Machine Review

(More customer reviews)I purchased this machine a few weeks ago and while using it the thread started bunching and getting caught in the bobbin area, I unjammed and checked the tension, it would work for about 1/2 the side of one pant leg and then get bunched again. I have taken the bobbin feeder area apart checked the tension read the VERY SHORT manual that doesnt give you much help...and tried basically everything I can think of including changing the needle...still keeps doing it!! ... oh yeah and the bobbin winder worked once and now it doesnt ever switch the power from the sewing part to the winding the bobbin when you slide the winder over.. so the needle goes up and down and the bobbin stays perfectly still!! ..if anyone has any clues about how to fix these issues please let me know

(More customer reviews)We received this little sewing machine yesterday, and I'm delighted with it! I was able to quickly mend a damaged quilt and it sewed through all of the layers without trouble.
The design is just like a large machine, with the same thread path, and with care, it sews a simple straight stitch just fine! If the thread breaks, check the tension, and make sure the presser foot is down when you are sewing, just like on a large machine. It has features that I didn't expect, such as the ability to take full size spools of thread, as well as bobbins, and it even has a bobbin winder! It runs on either 4 AA batteries or an included DC adapter. Since it's made of plastic, and not as sturdy as my full sized machine, I plan to treat it with extra care so it will last.
Excellent for quick mending.

(More customer reviews)I have never used a sewing machine before, but i liked the idea that I can do alterations on my jeans and pants, do some patchwork on my old clothes, and do various jobs here and there.
So I bought this. I was debating between this package and the machine only unit, and decided to go for the package because it has the same sewing machine, plus sewing kit that is supposed to have everything that fits to this small machine, and a pair of electrical scissors!
I did calculations and the package would work much better if the scissors are worth buying. I gave it a try.
1. Sewing machine.
As a person who has never used a sewing machine, the machine looked little bit complicated (mind you that I am a software Engineer, and not afraid of using a machine for the first time) with lots of holes for threads. But the guide coming with the machine explains pretty much everything to get started with. I could get around with the guide. The problem was, though, the guide is in crude black and white print and it is hard to recognize the tiny holes in the pictures. And there's one picture while there are more than three ways to get the thread hooked up.
If each way has an accompanying picture in colors, it would have been very helpful.
It also comes with a small packet that contains a few thread rolls and needles.
2. Sewing kit
I haven't opened it yet, but the kit seems to contain the essential elements.
3. Electrical Scissors
So, here's my problem. I expected a lot about these scissors, because I thought the electrical scissors are a bit luxurious item. But they didn't work when I put two AA batteries into the slot. I tried a few different brands of batteries but they didn't work. It made the motor sound in the very beginning at first but that was it. There is no guideline so I don't even know how it is supposed to work. I am thinking about getting them replaced by calling the sewing machine company.
I will update this review once I figure these scissors out.
But I love this little sewing machine; and thinking I would have fun and save money as well!

The speed is very slow, the pedal is cheap plastic and can break easily. The size is easy to handle for quick-fix sewing. The bobbin case is flimsy and comes dislodged easily.

Michley Lil' Sew & Sew LSS-339 Portable Sewing Machine Review

(More customer reviews)I purchased this as a quick sewing machine for my college daughter. I really wanted it to work well as I was thinking of picking one up for myself as an extra machine for quick jobs. I don't like giving negative reviews, but there were no reviews for this machine, so here I go:
Pro: It's tiny and light and very portable. Threading is very easy and stitches were perfect. Customer service responded quickly.
Con: It's loud, but it's a tiny machine and you can't expect everything...The pressure foot does not lift up high enough to get much more than a double layer of lightweight cotton through. I tried sewing a small cotton pillowcase and could not get the edges under the foot. Filling a bobbin runs the needle, which I did not like, and you need to use your finger as a way to make sure the bobbin thread goes on evenly. My biggest challenge (which I lost) came with replacing the bobbin and pulling the thread through. The instructions were useless (very limited) and customer service referred me to videos of other machines with different bobbin setups.
I never did figure out how to get the bobbin in correctly and the thread pulled through. I've returned it and purchased a full-size machine for my daughter. The machine has potential but they need to work on the bobbin issue, be up front about how high the foot lifts and put up a video.

(More customer reviews)Bottom line, DO NOT PURCHASE SINGER MACHINES!!! This was given as a gift and it jams ALL the time!! I've done every adjustment suggested by singer and from experienced users. All have said that the new singers have so many problems, especially with jamming. We have yet to sew anything since we opened up the box, just google singer 2263 problems and you'll see for yourself... At the end of the day they should rename the company to wannabe singer. Truth of the matter is Singer went bankrupt and sold the company. So it's NOT the old school respectable and well built Singer our parents and grandparents grew up with. Below are some of the reviews on Walmarts site...
"this machine sews fine for about 3 inches until ALL OF A SUDDEN the fabric balls up underneath the fabric and the machine completely stops. I've tried pretty much everything and can't figure out how to make it work. i think it's the tension... but i thought this was a machine for BEGINNERS! i think it just wasn't built right because you can tell from looking at it that the parts don't align quite right.
this is NOT a machine for beginners... but from reading other reviews, it seems like even expert seamstresses can't fix the problem!"

It looked good in the store and I have used Singer machines since the 1950s! I sew a lot and was trained by a master seamstress.
This machine tangled the threads and jammed within 2 hours out of the box. I had read the manual cover-to-cover and used the "trouble-shooting" page to try to fix it. then I thought, "WHY?!!" It wouldn't sew straight any more and had threads balled up under the fabric. Yuck! It is going back this afternoon!"

Handy Stitch Sewing Machine (As Seen On TV) Review

(More customer reviews)This is one of those items that really is too good to be true. I've read reviews of people saying that it doesn't work because the stitching just pulls out and because it doesn't have a second bobbin underneath, but that actually isn't true. If you pull the tailend thread through the fabric, you can tie it off and it'll hold the stitching. And the thread actually loops onto a hook underneath, where you would expect a second bobbin to be, and that's how it makes stitches.
The REAL issue with this is that the thread often slips off the the hook in the middle of sewing and you have a bunch of loose stitches. When it doesn't slip, it's great! Too bad it doesn't ever NOT slip. I managed to sew one seam of a dress I was making, the first seam, and after that it wouldn't sew without dropping stitches. Luckily I got this as a gift, and it has inspired me to start sewing, but now I need to get my hands on a actual machine that ACTUALLY sews. Don't waste your $10 + shipping on this!! Put it towards a real machine.

I am mostly just doing clothing touchups-resewing seems on my boyfriends pants. It's easily stored. The directions on setup were mostly clear. the b/w text was a little hard to read. (More customer reviews)I received this machine as a gift 7 years ago, and have since sewed everything from cardboard, denim, upholstery fabrics, quilts, paper, etc on it, and it is still chugging along! It's wonderful because it's fairly lightweight and medium sized, so it's easy to transport. It's also very easy to learn on, I taught myself how to use it and had sewed very little previous to using this machine. It has three straight stitches and seven variations of zig-zag stitches, as well as settings for making a buttonhole; new machines have way more settings for different stitches, but I've learned to do a lot of creative things just with this amount. If you are a really serious sewer you may be interested in a fancier machine with more options, but this one is wonderful if you are okay with limited stitch options. Replacements for needles and the light bulb have been easy and inexpensive. I've recently been learning about how to reset the tension, and this has been the first time it's given me any issues. Read the whole manual before you begin using it, it will make you a better sewer and teach you how to take care of your machine so it lasts longer. I would definitely recommend this machine.

BRATZ (REAL) Designed Sewing Machine Review

(More customer reviews)My daughter received this from her aunt. We followed the directions included in the package and found several problems with the item. (1) Once the machine is threaded (according to the directions) the thread feels so tight that it threatens breaking when you pull it through the needle... (2) The foot pedal pulls the fabric through the machine backwards.....(3) There seems to be nothing in the bottom portion of the machine which catches the thread to make a complete seam, in other words...the needle pulls the thread in and out of the fabric without leaving any thread connected to the fabric.
I am completely frustrated with this product and would love to hear that I am just using it incorrectly or that I have a malfunctioning machine. My daughter was VERY disappointed since she had looked so forward to "really" sewing on her own. Has anyone else had any experience with this product?
